Celebrating International Pinotage Day, this past weekend was all about pairing Pinotage wines and biltong – whilst being dressed in purple!
The lush gardens of Leriba Hotel in Centurion were the perfect place to indulge in our local, heritage delicacies. The green lawns were adorned with festival goers dressed in purple and white.
The Capetonian event organisers, Björn and Cobie van Oort, from CVO Marketing, personally welcomed all arrivals. The entrance fee included quality tasting glasses, beautiful magazines and purple tasting cards – to set the place (and pace!) for the pairings.
An array of Pinotage varieties from respectable wineries was present, including sparkling wine, rosé, blended wine and sweet wine. And to my surprise – a white Pinotage, which was a firm favourite.
The wines were paired with generous portions of droë wors and biltong in various flavours: Lemon & black pepper; BBQ; farm style; bacon biltong; etc.
It was a family friendly affair, with a festive live band, food stalls and a junior tent – to occupy the little ones. This event celebrated our national wine and biltong with robust flair.
We cannot wait to paint Pretoria purple in 2018!
